The job it promises

Bluesky's assistant Attie has gained a feature called Quests. A user can now ask open-ended questions about news, trends and conversations circulating on Bluesky and other apps on the AT Protocol, and surfacing influential accounts in a given field or location is among the stated goals. Attie first appeared in March 2026 for building custom feeds.[1]

The friction budget starts here. The feature is in beta and will open over the coming weeks to people invited from a waitlist. The report says nothing about which countries, which languages or which account types it will work in, and no pricing is stated. What can be decided today, then, is only whether to join the list; the product itself is not yet within reach.[1]

What 45.6 million counts

The report puts Bluesky's registered accounts at about 45.6 million. That is a total of registrations; it says nothing about how many of those accounts are active, nor how many will draw an invitation from the waitlist. The distance between how many people a feature could reach and how many use it is at its widest exactly here, in beta.[1]

The second question is reliability. The right answer to an open-ended question about what is going around changes by the hour; when an assistant gets it wrong, it shows up as a skewed summary or an incomplete list of accounts, and the user often has no reference point to notice. The report carries nothing about accuracy measurement, what happens when the answer fails, or whether results show what they were drawn from.[1]

Three things to check before joining the list

The first thing to check on the user's side is the access condition: when the feature leaves beta, is it written down which countries, languages and account types it opens to. The second is sourcing: can you see which posts an answer rests on, or do you only get the summary. The third is the thin-data case: does the assistant say when it cannot find enough posts, or does it produce an answer from what little it has anyway.[1]

Until those three are written down, Quests remains a well-described job with limited access. The distance from March 2026's feed builder to here is real, but no one can see from a waitlist how accurately an assistant reports what is going around the network.[1]
