Google brings Gemini to Windows with an Alt + Space shortcut

Google released a dedicated Gemini app worldwide for Windows 10 and 11, opening over the current window with Alt + Space. Chrome Unboxed independently corroborates the launch, supported systems and shortcut. Google's account adds Gmail and Google Drive access, image and video creation, and multi-step tasks through Gemini Spark, while promising more desktop-native capabilities later.

Gemini opens above the active Windows application

Google released a dedicated Gemini desktop application worldwide for Windows 10 and 11. Pressing Alt + Space opens it above whatever the user is working on, reducing the need to move into a browser tab. Chrome Unboxed independently corroborates the launch, the supported Windows versions and the shortcut. The application is available from Google's Gemini desktop address rather than through a staged regional announcement.[1], [2]

Connected services move desktop material into the prompt

From the Windows application, Google says users can draft documents, manage tasks, create images and draw material from Gmail and Google Drive. The company also assigns image creation to Nano Banana and video creation to Gemini Omni 1. These functions make the desktop application more than a shortcut to a chat page: it is presented as an access point to Google's connected services and creation models.[1]

Gemini Spark handles multi-step work

Google says multi-step tasks can be handed to Gemini Spark, which it describes as a personal agent that keeps working around the clock. Product-management director Erin Pettigrew says more desktop-native capabilities will arrive over time. Google also says the application runs without slowing the computer, but the retained reports contain no independent performance test. The announced product is available now; the further native capabilities remain a future commitment.[1]
