Meta lets coding agents finish WhatsApp Business setup

A remote WhatsApp Business Tools MCP server lets Claude, Cursor, Codex or ChatGPT create the account, verify a number and register Cloud API access in chat instead of bouncing across consoles. The New Stack adds that the developer signs in with a Meta account and scopes the agent to chosen businesses, after paid messaging crossed a 2 billion dollar annual run rate.

The agent can open the account inside the chat

TechCrunch says Meta's new WhatsApp Business Tools MCP server lets an agent such as Claude, Cursor, Codex or ChatGPT run account, number and Cloud API registration over chat. MCP here is Model Context Protocol, the pattern that lets an agent discover tools at runtime. The agent can create the business account, add and verify a phone number, register Cloud API access and check Terms of Service. The same channel can describe a message template and test webhooks. Meta is adding this beside existing MCP servers for ads and app configuration, aimed at onboarding. Validated clients include Claude Desktop, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Codex and Cursor; each client still needs explicit support.[1]

Access is scoped to businesses the developer picks

The New Stack reports that Meta's answer to fiddly WhatsApp Business onboarding is to let coding agents run the setup through MCP. A developer connects the WhatsApp Business Tools MCP server to an agent such as Claude or Codex, signs in with a Meta account, and chooses which administered businesses the agent may touch; connecting the agent does not open every Meta account. Paid WhatsApp messaging had crossed a 2 billion dollar annual run rate in the fourth quarter of 2025, CFO Susan Li told investors, but onboarding still jumped between account settings, API docs and an editor.[2]

The same MCP path is what both reports describe

Both reports describe a remote MCP server that connects the agent to the WhatsApp Business Platform so setup runs in chat. TechCrunch lists validated clients and the Cloud API and number steps; The New Stack adds the sign-in, business picker and the 2 billion dollar paid-messaging run rate. Standing up the account without bouncing from console to editor is the shared scene; which agent may touch which business still follows the developer's grant.[1], [2]
