NVIDIA App’s local agent-control permission appears enabled after updating

VideoCardz found NVIDIA App’s permission for AI-agent control enabled after updating, with similar accounts from other users. The local interface can launch games, change graphics settings and operate recording tools. It runs on the computer itself; sending information to an outside service depends on the connected agent. The master permission can be turned off in the application’s settings.

A previously released version draws attention to its default

VideoCardz found the permission allowing AI agents to control NVIDIA App enabled after an update to version 11.0.9.565. Other users reported similar behaviour, and Tarreo also covered the automatic activation. The version itself had been released earlier. The 16 October development concerns the observed permission setting, rather than the first release of the software. NVIDIA’s release notes identify support for agent connections without explaining that default.[1], [2]

The connection uses Model Context Protocol, or MCP, a standard interface through which compatible agent software calls tools. A local server presents NVIDIA App functions to a client running on the computer. Opening that interface does not itself connect the application to an outside AI provider. Whether retrieved information reaches a cloud service depends on what the connected agent does with it.[1]

Agents can reach games and recording controls

NVIDIA’s documented tools include listing detected games and applications, launching an application from that list and reading driver status or release notes. Supported games can receive graphics presets, with an option to restore their settings. Laptop features such as Battery Boost and Whisper Mode are accessible within their supported scopes. The documentation calls for checking application support and the power profile before applying optimisation.[1]

Recording tools can start or stop ShadowPlay capture, save an instant replay and take a screenshot. Other controls cover RTX Dynamic Vibrance and the display of performance statistics. Server connectivity and readiness of the in-game overlay are distinct conditions: reaching the server does not establish that every recording command is ready to run. Available tools can also vary with the installed version and access level.[1]

The master permission can stop the persistent server

The default endpoint is on the loopback address, which keeps the server interface local to the computer. Users can turn off the master permission under Connect Agents & Apps in the Features settings. Disabling it prevents the persistent MCP server from running. That control governs access to the application’s tools, while an agent’s separate configuration determines its own use of remote services.[1]
