Hakuhodo opens image-similarity checks to corporate clients

Hakuhodo has opened its image-similarity checker to corporate clients after using it within its own group. The tool searches online for similar images and scores aspects such as meaning and structure. Authentication and audit logs have been strengthened for corporate use. It documents image reviews, while Hakuhodo says final decisions about copyright remain with the company using the tool.

An internal checker opens to clients

Hakuhodo began offering its image-similarity checker to corporate clients on October 19. The Japanese advertising company had previously used it within the Hakuhodo DY Group to review creative work made with generative AI. AI Watch also reports the client launch. The tool is intended to make checks on advertising images and other creative material more efficient by finding similar images on the web.[1], [2]

Hakuhodo says clients had asked for a more efficient way to carry out similar risk checks. It describes manual image comparisons as labor-intensive and liable to vary between reviewers. The corporate offering extends the existing search tool and strengthens features for authentication and oversight, seeking to support a more consistent review process inside companies.[1]

Similarity is scored from several perspectives

The checker automatically detects and displays highly similar images. It scores similarity from perspectives including meaning and structure, and brings results together in a list. Generative AI analyzes the submitted image’s characteristics and generates relevant search keywords. Several algorithms are used to assess similarity. Search results and assessment information can be exported as a report, allowing the search and review process to be documented alongside the image under consideration. Hakuhodo presents these functions as a way to improve the safety and reliability of creative work. The stated setting is risk review during the production of advertising images, where the company wants searches and assessments to be easier to conduct.[1]

Logs retain the review history

Corporate access includes single sign-on. Audit logs can retain who checked an image, when it was reviewed, which image was examined and the result. Hakuhodo describes this history as support for corporate AI governance and audit work. It expressly leaves final decisions about copyright infringement to the company using the tool: similarity scores assist the review. Through its HCAI Professionals expert group, Hakuhodo is also considering future support for AI-use guidelines, operating workflows and risk-management arrangements.[1]
