Gemini brings personal Google-app information into Android Auto

Google has begun bringing Gemini’s Personal Intelligence to Android Auto. With permission, the assistant can use connected emails, calendar entries, photos and other Google services for travel answers and directions. Users choose which apps to connect. Cars with Google built-in follow in a later rollout, with additional phone-presence conditions for personal replies.

Connected personal information reaches the car

Google began rolling out Personal Intelligence for Gemini on Android Auto on 20 October. The feature lets its AI assistant draw on connected personal information when answering in the car. With permission, it connects Google services including Gmail, Calendar, Photos, Maps, YouTube and Search. The personalized-data rollout is a separate step from Gemini’s broader availability in vehicles.[1], [2]

Emails and photos can supply journey details

Google describes both specific lookups and answers assembled across several services. A driver heading to the airport could ask for a flight gate and delay information together. Other examples include finding a doctor’s appointment address in the calendar, identifying restaurants along a route that match personal preferences, and navigating to a car wash shown in an earlier photo. A previous Gemini conversation can also supply context for directions to a coffee shop.[1]

App permissions and rollout limits remain

Applications connect only after the user opts in. Users choose which services to link and can disable Personal Intelligence in Gemini settings; an existing phone preference carries into the car. Navigation, music, calls and general questions remain available without personalized answers. Google says cars with Google built-in are due to receive the feature in the coming months, with personal responses only when the user is present and their phone is connected.[1]

The current rollout covers eligible personal Google accounts held by people aged 18 or older. Workspace business, enterprise and education accounts are excluded. The European Economic Area, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and Nigeria are also outside the current personal-data rollout.[1]
