Claude Duet checks connected apps while users are away

Anthropic has opened a research preview of Claude Duet, a personal agent that periodically checks connected applications and raises matters needing attention. Initial access is limited to US Pro and Max subscribers through a waitlist. The app can prepare work in the background, while sending messages, making payments and deleting content require explicit user approval.

Duet watches for work between requests

Anthropic has introduced Claude Duet, a personal AI agent that checks connected applications and alerts users to matters it considers important. The research preview starts with a waitlist for Pro and Max subscribers in the United States, with access through mobile apps and the web. Users can give instructions by voice or text in one continuing conversation.[1], [2]

Built around Opus 5.5, Duet inherits the memory, skills and connections of a Claude account. Its own virtual machine and browser keep running when the user's devices are off. It prepares a morning summary and checks services every few hours. Those background checks count against the subscription's usage allowance.[1]

Messages and payments require approval

Connections include Gmail and Slack, as well as business services QuickBooks, Stripe and Shopify. Duet can read information and prepare drafts, but sending a message, making a payment, signing a document or deleting content requires explicit approval of the proposed action. Securities trading and transfers between accounts remain prohibited even with permission.[1]

The preview can misjudge urgency

Anthropic acknowledges that Duet can misunderstand urgency and conversational context, with personal errands proving harder than business tasks. Users cannot yet see what is happening inside its browser. The company says sensitive health and financial information requires explicit instructions. It has not announced a general release date.[1]
