KT and Samsung try network changes virtually before applying them live
KT and Samsung Electronics have completed a commercial-network trial at a South Korean baseball stadium. Artificial intelligence proposes base-station settings, and a digital twin checks them before they reach the live network. The companies used an environment where spectators and data traffic move rapidly, then announced plans to extend the approach to other network settings.

Stadium trial uses a live commercial network
Samsung Electronics and South Korean telecommunications operator KT announced a completed field trial on 2 November, following about three months of work from July. They tested autonomous network operations at KT Wiz Park, a baseball stadium in Suwon, South Korea. The commercial 5G network supplied a setting where spectators move in large groups and demand for mobile data changes sharply around games.[1], [2]
A virtual network checks proposed settings
The companies describe a system that learns how neighboring base stations interact, then proposes changes such as the direction and width of antenna beams. A digital twin, a virtual representation of the real network, tests the options before AI selects and applies a setting. Its model includes terrain, buildings, users’ movements, radio conditions and the operating behavior of base stations and connected devices.[1]
Partners plan tests in more settings
Previously, specialists analyzed field data and adjusted stations manually, with the effect apparent only after a change reached the network. Samsung Research executive Jeong Jin-guk highlighted the ability to check AI proposals before live application. KT Future Network Lab executive Lee Jong-sik described the trial as confirmation of commercial feasibility. The partners plan to extend the pre-validation approach to other network environments in their work toward autonomous networks for the 6G era.[1]
