Claude links bank accounts to read-only spending analysis
Anthropic is rolling out Personal Finance in Claude to paid subscribers in the United States. People can connect bank and card accounts through Plaid and ask about spending, balances and bills. Access is read-only: the chatbot cannot transfer or invest money. The company says conversations inside the finance hub are excluded from model training.

Account questions enter Claude
Anthropic is adding account-linked financial questions to Claude, its conversational assistant. Personal Finance begins rolling out this week in a US beta for Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers. Customers connect chosen bank and card accounts through Plaid, a service linking financial institutions with applications. They can then ask about balances, spending and upcoming bills using their own transaction history. The connection gives the assistant read-only access. Anthropic says the feature cannot move, manage or invest a customer’s money, and describes it as a way to understand finances rather than obtain investment advice.[1], [2]
Spending can be followed across accounts
The intended workflow starts with an ordinary question, such as where the month’s money went. Claude groups transactions into categories including rent, utilities, food and shopping. Follow-up questions can compare the result with previous months or examine what remains before payday. Anthropic also describes identifying a membership renewal, duplicate charges, unexpected fees and bills that have risen over time. These examples concern the interpretation of connected accounts; they do not give the assistant permission to execute a payment. A customer can also ask how spending compares with income or ask what an annual interest rate means alongside the interest already charged.[1]
Access and training have defined limits
The data visible to Claude includes the bank’s name, the account’s name and type, the last four digits of its number, balances, credit limits and up to two years of transactions. Anthropic says conversations in the Personal Finance hub are not used to train its models. It also says the tool has no advertisements or sponsored recommendations and does not market its own cards, loans or savings accounts. Those assurances are the company’s stated product boundaries. Users can request a spending chart, a calendar of bills or a dashboard and continue adjusting it. An account can be unlinked at any time, ending Claude’s access to its data. The beta is confined to the named US paid plans, rather than opening account-linked analysis to every Claude user worldwide.[1], [2]
