GitHub has expanded the Copilot impact dashboard from seven to nine tracked experiences by adding chat and VS Code agent usage. The dashboard keeps its rolling 28-day reporting period and repeated-use threshold. A renamed chat-first cohort retains its existing members, while overlapping chat and agent counts require separate interpretation.
GitHub’s Copilot impact dashboard now displays usage of chat alongside agents in VS Code, the tool showing how developers use its coding assistant. The November 6 change increases the tracked experiences from seven to nine. Enterprise and organization reports show the additions over a rolling 28-day period. Historical reports continue to reflect the original seven experiences rather than receiving a retrospective expansion.[1]
A developer counts as engaged with an experience after using it on at least two different days within the reporting period. Adoption-phase rules remain unchanged. The cohort formerly called passive is now labelled chat-first, with the same membership and size. Chat and the VS Code agent window are shown as feature engagement without themselves changing which adoption phase a developer belongs to.[1]
Chat activity includes agent mode, so one developer can appear in both totals. The counts therefore overlap rather than forming separate groups of people. Enterprise owners and billing managers can view the data, as can organization owners and suitably authorized custom roles. Viewing the metrics also requires an enabled Copilot usage policy. The new display adds detail about tool use while retaining the dashboard’s established reporting period and engagement definitions.[1]
