UNEP concedes a 1.5 °C overshoot and ties a return path to a 1.8 °C peak
UNEP's Limiting Overshoot report accepts that warming is set to pass 1.5 °C in the next few years and says there are no good outcomes above 1.5 °C. Debra Roberts says a return by century's end stays in reach if the peak is held to about 1.8 °C. The path needs emissions halved between now and 2035 and about 10 gigatonnes of CO2 removed each year; current emissions are about 40 gigatonnes. Inger Andersen says the 1.5 °C target remains, to be approached from above.
USS Abraham Lincoln docked in Thailand after 250 days without a port call
The nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln entered Laem Chabang port in Thailand on Wednesday, giving its roughly 5,000 crew their first break ashore. It left San Diego last November on a six-month Pacific assignment and was diverted to the Gulf when operations against Iran began in late February. The US Embassy put the deployment at 286 days and uninterrupted time at sea at 264 days. Thai authorities placed parts of the city off limits. The carrier starts for home on 6 September.

Zelenskyy told airlines that Russian airspace is becoming completely unsafe
Volodymyr Zelenskyy told airlines that still use Russian airspace, insurers and key Russian airports on Tuesday that the skies are becoming completely unsafe. He said Ukraine does not threaten civilian aviation; Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha notified ICAO that the airspace is not safe, and Ukraine notified the UN of the risks. In Bishkek Vladimir Putin called the warning state terrorism and said Moscow does not negotiate with terrorists. Chinese, Turkish and Gulf carriers still use Russian skies; Ukraine has kept its own airspace closed to civil flights since February 2022.
Dexrazoxane won on four measures, and matching built the group it was measured against
A drug that reduces bleeding inside the heart muscle after a heart attack came out ahead on all four measures. The same week, a placebo-controlled trial in 959 people came back empty. What separates the weight the two results can carry is how each comparison group was built.
DoorDash's sandbox shows where the agent bottleneck went
Flux runs DoorDash's engineering agents in Firecracker sandboxes with permissions declared in a playbook, and AWS Agent Registry sells the catalogue half of the same boundary. The volume is documented; there is no figure for what the reviewing engineer pays for it.
Eurostat already bills energy at 14.3 per cent as Brent sits at about 95 dollars
Eurostat's August flash puts energy inflation at 14.3 per cent while the rest of the basket cooled. Brent then climbed to about 95 dollars on Tuesday, and Scott Bessent called high oil and gas prices a temporary supply shock.
In NHS records the scribe's error is usually caught only by the patient
In England 27 scribe tools write consultations into the NHS patient record and none is regulated as a medical device. The same gap stands in a different form inside Ireland's immigration unit.
Japan's long end climbed to a 30-year high on the Warsh signal
The yield rose to 2.95 per cent while gold fell 0.18 per cent. The gap between the two reactions points to a repricing concentrated in the path of the next few meetings.
Medtronic's big quarter bought a small guidance raise
Revenue grew 13.7 per cent in the quarter, but about 570 million dollars of that came from an extra fiscal week added to the period. Only the bottom of the full-year earnings range moved, from 5.90 dollars to 5.94 dollars, and that tells you where the difference sits.
