John Mayer has released Tom and Jerry, his first new solo material since the 2021 album Sob Rock. Mayer releases his first new solo material since 2021

American singer and guitarist John Mayer released Tom and Jerry on October 23, his first new solo material since the 2021 album Sob Rock. The single also introduces Sob Rock Records, the label he has launched in partnership with Mercury Records.[1], [2]

A phone memo gave the song its title

Mayer and Blake Slatkin were the track’s producers; recording took place at Chaplin Studios. Mayer said Tom and Jerry was the name he used when saving the first voice memo containing the song idea. The track premiered a day before its wide release on LIFE with John Mayer, his channel on satellite-radio service SiriusXM. A live-vocal video was also scheduled for October 23.[1]

Sob Rock Records adds a new chapter to Mayer’s catalogue

Mayer released his debut album Room for Squares in 2001. Heavier Things, Battle Studies and Born and Raised each entered the Billboard 200 album chart at number one. His seven Grammy awards include Song of the Year for Daughters. Alongside his solo work, he has played guitar and sung with Dead & Company, the American band formed in 2015. LIFE with John Mayer launched in November 2023, giving him a radio channel ahead of this single’s premiere.[1]
