Sampa The Great releases Nu Zamrock, inspired by a family discovery

Sampa The Great’s third album, Nu Zamrock, is out through Loma Vista Recordings. The Zambian musician says learning of her uncle’s connection to the pioneering band WITCH helped shape the project. Its 16 tracks include appearances by Mwanjé, Sia, KAMAUU and Nicole, following her 2022 album As Above, So Below.

Nu Zamrock is Sampa’s third album

Zambian musician and rapper Sampa The Great released Nu Zamrock through the music label Loma Vista Recordings on October 30. It is her third album, following The Return in 2019 and As Above, So Below in 2022. The release includes 16 tracks and guest appearances from Mwanjé, Sia, KAMAUU and Nicole.[1], [2]

A family connection led back to WITCH

Sampa says reconnecting with her family revealed that her uncle George Kunda, known as Groovy Joe, was a founding member of WITCH, a Zambian band that helped pioneer Zamrock. That 1970s movement combined rock, funk and African rhythms. She describes the discovery as an influence on this album, whose sound she characterizes as a meeting of hip-hop, rock, soul and Zambian Kalindula rhythms.[1]

Collaborators appear across the 16-song sequence

Intro opens the sequence, followed by Prayer In A Dance, Can’t Quit Music, Simon Says and Catch If You Can. Mwanjé appears on Can’t Hold Us, which had already been released in 2025. Sia joins Supernova and KAMAUU features on Star. The final stretch includes The Journey Is Underrated, Gone with Nicole, and Nicole’s Interlude, before the album’s closing song.[1]
