NSE cash turnover fell 3 per cent in August to a five-month low

Average daily turnover in the NSE cash segment fell 3 per cent in August to a five-month low. The decline followed sharp swings in the new closing auction, profit-booking, promoter stake sales and a heavy pipeline of initial public offerings. SEBI introduced the auction on 3 August for 208 stocks. Two people said Beejapuri Dairy, parent of Country Delight, will begin informal pitches to investment banks within 7 to 10 days; within 12 to 18 months the offering could raise 200 to 300 million dollars.

Cash turnover fell to a five-month low

Average daily turnover in the cash segment fell 3 per cent month on month in August to a five-month low. Sharp swings in the new closing auction session, profit-booking, promoter stake sales through bulk and block deals and a heavy pipeline of initial public offerings pulled investors back from the secondary market. SEBI introduced the closing auction on 3 August for 208 stocks eligible for futures and options.[1]

Nifty dropped 272 points in the closing auction

SEBI introduced the closing auction session on 3 August for 208 stocks eligible for futures and options, replacing a 30-minute volume-weighted average price with a single-price call auction. On 26 August the Nifty, within about 30 seconds of the auction opening, fell 272 points from a reference level of 24,277 to 24,005, before closing at 24,208. The next day the Sensex, which had traded above 77,100 before the auction, saw its indicative price drop as low as 74,988 and closed at 76,933. Former SEBI chairman UK Sinha said better preparation, consultation and beta testing were needed but said he was not worried and expected the system to settle. Anand James of Geojit Investments said the closing price stays uncertain once continuous trading ends, leaving options traders in the dark over that interval.[1]

Beejapuri Dairy prepares a 200 to 300 million dollar offering

Two people familiar with the matter said Beejapuri Dairy, parent of Country Delight, will begin informal pitches to investment banks within 7 to 10 days to pick lead managers. Within 12 to 18 months the offering could raise 200 to 300 million dollars and will combine fresh equity with an offer for sale by existing institutional holders, with size dependent on board approval and market conditions. In the 2024 financial year revenue was up 46 per cent at 13.8 billion rupees; in March 2025 the Gurugram-based company raised 2 billion rupees of equity from Temasek. A heavy pipeline of initial public offerings was among the forces that pulled investors back from the secondary market.[2], [1]
