The talks

Seoul Economic Daily said SK hynix is in talks with Intel about producing memory chips in the United States for the first time. Options under discussion include leasing part of Intel’s Ohio plant and a joint venture with cloud customers. SK hynix said nothing has been finalized. The report stated plainly that the talks have not become a contract or an investment decision.[1], [2]

Indiana package

The same report said SK hynix is investing about 4 billion dollars (5.46 trillion won) in a next-generation high-bandwidth memory packaging plant in West Lafayette, Indiana, with mass production targeted for the second half of 2029. The Ohio front-end talks remain unfinished. No final structure has been announced. The 2029 target is for the packaging plant; Ohio front-end production is a separate unfinished file.[1], [2]

Share move

CNBC said Intel and SK Hynix shares jumped on a report they are discussing US memory-chip manufacturing. It framed the talks as a possible foundry win for Intel. No completed deal was announced. CNBC tied the share move to the report; it did not publish a deal text.[1], [2]
