DMart operator’s September-quarter revenue grows 18.4 per cent

Avenue Supermarts reported an 18.4 per cent annual increase in standalone revenue for the September quarter, reaching 19,206.18 crore rupees. The DMart operator counted 518 stores, including one closed for reconstruction. Its earlier June-quarter consolidated results provide a separate comparison for profit and margins; the new disclosure concerns September revenue.

Standalone sales rise from a year earlier

Avenue Supermarts, the company that operates the DMart retail chain, disclosed standalone operating revenue of 19,206.18 crore rupees for the quarter ended 30 September. The exchange disclosure puts the chain’s store count at 518. Its revenue update covers the second quarter of the financial year and the company’s standalone accounts, with the earlier consolidated results presented separately as background.[1], [2]

Revenue was 18.4 per cent higher than the 16,218.79 crore rupees recorded in the corresponding quarter last year. It also increased 4.7 per cent from the preceding June quarter, when standalone revenue stood at 18,343.49 crore rupees. The two growth rates therefore use different reference periods: one compares successive September quarters, while the other compares September with the immediately preceding quarter.[1]

The standalone revenue sequence also includes 14,050.32 crore rupees in the corresponding quarter of 2024 and 12,307.72 crore rupees in 2023. Avenue Supermarts presented those earlier September-quarter amounts alongside the latest disclosure, providing comparisons across several financial years for the same operating-revenue measure.[2]

Store count includes an outlet under reconstruction

The 518-store total includes the Sanpada outlet in Navi Mumbai, India, which was closed to customers for reconstruction. DMart’s stores sell everyday household necessities and personal-use products. Its network operates across Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, the National Capital Region, Tamil Nadu, Punjab and Rajasthan. The reported count includes the temporarily closed site as well as stores serving customers.[1]

June’s consolidated results provide the earlier baseline

In the earlier June quarter, consolidated net profit increased 11.33 per cent to 860.61 crore rupees. Consolidated revenue reached 18,794.53 crore rupees, up about 15 per cent. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation amounted to 1,499 crore rupees, with a margin of eight per cent. Avenue Supermarts added three stores in that quarter, taking its network to 503 at June’s end.[1]

Those profit and margin figures belong to the June quarter’s consolidated accounts. The new September disclosure gives standalone revenue and the end-quarter store count. It does not supply a September-quarter net-profit result alongside those operating figures.[1]
