Bangladesh raises its 12 kg LPG cylinder price by 252 taka

Bangladesh’s energy regulator raised the October price of a privately supplied 12 kg LPG cylinder by 252 taka to 1,837 taka. The decision took effect on 4 October, increasing the regulated cost of a household cooking fuel. Autogas prices also rose. The official cylinder price is separate from reported retail shortages and complaints about sellers charging above regulated rates.

The new cylinder tariff takes effect

Bangladesh’s Energy Regulatory Commission increased the October price of a privately supplied 12 kg LPG cylinder by 252 taka to 1,837 taka. The decision took effect on 4 October. In September, the regulator had reduced the same cylinder’s price by 13 taka to 1,585 taka. The new tariff reverses that small reduction and raises the regulated cost of a fuel used for household cooking.[1], [2]

Other LPG tariffs use different units

The retail rate for private LPG was set at 153.06 taka per kilogram, including VAT, while autogas rose to 84.62 taka per litre. The state producer’s larger cylinder remained at 776.93 taka. The regulator’s calculation used Saudi Aramco propane and butane contract prices, freight and trader premiums, and an exchange rate of 123.18 taka per dollar. These inputs underpin the administered price decision.[1]

Retail complaints continue alongside the tariff

Consumers reported paying between 2,000 and 2,500 taka for some cylinders in September, above that month’s official 1,585-taka price. Industry operators denied a national LPG shortage and reported imports of about 156,000 tonnes in September, compared with 158,000 tonnes in August. The government is investigating allegations of artificial shortages and overcharging. The October regulated price therefore remains separate from what individual sellers actually charge customers.[1]
