Philippine inflation rises to 7.2 per cent as food prices accelerate

The Philippines’ annual inflation rate increased to 7.2 per cent in September from 6.1 per cent in August. Food, housing and transport prices rose faster, while core inflation also accelerated to 4.7 per cent. Vegetables reversed their previous annual decline and rice remained substantially more expensive than a year earlier. Price pressures strengthened in the capital and across most regions. Inflation averaged 5.4 per cent over January–September.

September prices rise faster

The Philippines’ annual inflation rate rose to 7.2 per cent in September from 6.1 per cent in August.[1], [2]

The rate had been 1.7 per cent in September 2025. Inflation averaged 5.4 per cent over January–September.[1]

Core inflation also increased, reaching 4.7 per cent from 4.1 per cent in August and 2.6 per cent a year earlier. Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels rose 8.4 per cent annually, compared with 7.9 per cent in August. Transport inflation increased from 13.5 per cent to 14.6 per cent.[1]

Vegetables reverse their annual decline

Food and non-alcoholic beverage inflation increased from 4.6 per cent to 6.7 per cent. Vegetables, tubers and pulses rose 10.7 per cent annually after a 3.4 per cent decline in August. Rice prices increased 20.3 per cent, fish and other seafood 7.4 per cent, and fruit 8.7 per cent. Meat prices fell 2.7 per cent, while dairy products and eggs declined 0.8 per cent.[1]

Price pressures strengthen across regions

In the capital region, annual headline inflation rose from 4.1 per cent to 5.4 per cent. Outside the capital, the combined rate increased from 6.6 per cent to 7.6 per cent. Fifteen regions recorded faster inflation. Bangsamoro had the highest annual regional rate, at 9.7 per cent, while MIMAROPA had the lowest, at 5.9 per cent. These regional baskets sit alongside the national consumer-price measure.[1]
