ASML raises sales to 11.7 billion euros as equipment demand grows

ASML’s third-quarter sales increased from 9.326 billion euros to 11.662 billion euros as revenue from installed-machine services and upgrades also grew. Net profit rose to 4.960 billion euros. Management forecasts annual sales of 44–45 billion euros and is examining additional capacity because its planned supply falls short of customers’ projected equipment demand.

Quarterly sales reach 11.662 billion euros

ASML, the Dutch supplier of semiconductor manufacturing equipment, announced third-quarter net sales of 11.662 billion euros on 14 October.[1], [2]

Sales had been 9,326 million euros in the second quarter. Net income increased from 2,918 million euros to 4,960 million euros, while gross margin rose from 54.0 per cent to 57.5 per cent. Sales of new lithography systems, a category of chipmaking equipment, increased from 86 to 113 units. Basic earnings per share rose from 7.59 euros to 12.95 euros. The quarterly financial statements are unaudited.[1]

Installed-machine upgrades bring more revenue

Revenue from servicing and upgrading machines already installed increased to 3,289 million euros from 2,762 million euros. Chief executive Christophe Fouquet attributed revenue above guidance in this business, and the higher gross margin, to strong demand for productivity upgrades. Cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments at quarter-end totalled 12,735 million euros, compared with 7,582 million euros at the preceding quarter-end.[1]

Management examines further capacity expansion

Fouquet said customers had raised equipment demand forecasts in light of expected artificial intelligence investment. Some expressed interest in orders for 2029 and 2030. Management assesses planned supply as insufficient for customer demand in 2027 and 2028 and is examining options beyond its previously announced 30 per cent capacity increase for 2028. Its fourth-quarter sales forecast is 14.2–15.2 billion euros; annual sales guidance is 44–45 billion euros, with gross margin around 56 per cent.[1]
