UK regulator opens formal review of FirstCash’s Ramsdens purchase
The UK Competition and Markets Authority has launched a formal inquiry into FirstCash’s proposed acquisition of Ramsdens. The review follows a public comment period that ended in September and concerns the transaction’s possible effect on competition. The regulator lists the financial-services case as open, with a first-phase decision deadline of 22 December.

Formal competition inquiry begins
The United Kingdom’s Competition and Markets Authority opened its formal inquiry on 26 October into FirstCash Holdings’ proposed purchase of Ramsdens Holdings. The regulator is examining the anticipated acquisition’s possible effect on competition. Its published case page lists the financial-services investigation as open. The transaction remains a proposed purchase.[1], [2]
Public comments preceded the launch
An earlier invitation allowed interested parties to submit initial views between 20 August and 4 September. That consultation period has closed. The invitation concerned possible effects on competition in the United Kingdom and was open beyond the two companies. It formed the first part of the authority’s information gathering before formal investigation. The original invitation explicitly stated that the formal investigation had not yet begun at that stage.[1], [2]
First-phase decision due by 22 December
The authority’s timetable sets 22 December as the deadline for its first-phase decision. The statutory deadline can be extended in certain limited circumstances. Before the formal launch, the regulator had also received the information needed to begin pre-notification, the preliminary process involving the companies. The inquiry’s opening does not itself announce clearance or prohibition of the purchase.[1], [2]
