The merger took effect on 1 November, with details published the following day. The structure completes the universal banking platform announced in January, bringing corporate banking, investment banking and global markets services into a single legal entity.[1]

Paris branch and markets leadership

Genoveva Ramón-Borja was appointed to lead MUFG Bank Europe’s Paris branch and its European Union corporate and investment banking platform. Anthony Larqué and Takeshi Kajie became co-heads of the global markets division. Harm Bots, head of the European Union business and chief executive of MUFG Bank Europe, said the group had pooled capital, infrastructure and specialist teams. He presented the integration as a way to serve clients through the group’s worldwide network.[1]

Management’s European growth plans

Hide Yamamura, MUFG’s regional chief executive for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, described the European Union as strategically important. He cited its diverse client base and growth potential in explaining the merger. Bots said investment and financing needs were increasing across Europe’s economy. Management aims to respond with the strengthened platform, combining staff and market knowledge from the two businesses as part of its long-term regional growth plans.[1]
