Terrorist-connection aggravation added to Turnberry indictment; hybrid-threat warnings continue

Seven people indicted at Glasgow's High Court over damage at the Trump Turnberry golf course face an offence aggravated by a terrorist connection; the preliminary hearing was put off to October. The indictment says slogans including Gaza is not for sale were painted on the grass and a building on 8 March 2025 and a sprinkler system was damaged. Western officials said they expect Moscow to keep up cyber-attacks, sabotage and assassination attempts short of direct military action.

Seven people face a terrorist-connection aggravation

Seven people indicted at the High Court in Glasgow over damage at the Trump Turnberry golf course in South Ayrshire are accused of an offence that the indictment says was aggravated by reason of having a terrorist connection. The preliminary hearing has been put off to October. The indictment names Kieran Robson, Uzma Bashir, Ricky Southall, Autumn Taylor Ward, Rebecca Sian Davies, John Moxley and Dylan Chiaramello. The indictment alleges that on 8 March 2025 turf was dug up, weedkiller was sprayed on the fairways and the greens, slogans including Gaza is not for sale were painted on the grass and a building, a sprinkler system was damaged causing flooding, and a light was damaged. Robson, Bashir and Davies are also accused of attempting to defeat the ends of justice by driving to and from Turnberry in vehicles with false registration plates.[1]

Turnberry prosecution and hybrid-threat assessment

Scotland advanced a terrorism-linked aggravation over Turnberry damage while Western officials assessed Moscow would keep cyber-attacks, sabotage and assassination attempts below direct military action.[1], [2]

Western officials kept up hybrid-threat warnings

Officials briefing on Friday called recent Russian warnings that British forces or weapons factories could be hit nothing new and consistent with Moscow's doctrine of applying pressure. They expect cyber-attacks, sabotage and assassination attempts to continue short of direct military action, and one pointed to the risk that miscalculation could still spark a confrontation. Earlier this month a drone loaded with explosives reached a runway at Germany's Leipzig airport; there is no proof linking the incident directly to Russia, which denies any role. After it, the head of France's security services warned that the possibility of direct, more violent hostile actions on French soil must be considered.[2]
