Tehran’s Janfada-ye-Iran march draws a crowd Moscow cannot verify

Al Jazeera’s Friday Tehran dispatch described Janfada-ye-Iran marchers in uniform while stressing that the 313,000 turnout officials claimed could not be checked independently. It also carried IRIB registration totals above six hundred thousand and wire copy on PBS and NBC calling the display the largest since February’s US-Israeli strikes.

A march the count cannot prove

Al Jazeera’s Friday account had combat-dressed volunteers, some with flags or weapons, moving through central Tehran for an official Janfada-ye-Iran programme pitched as short military and civil-defence drills alongside the Revolutionary Guard and Basij. Capital authorities offered a 313,000 headcount; the outlet said outsiders could not confirm it. The story noted port blockade and fresh US sanctions as backdrop without using them to prove turnout.[1]

Higher numbers on state television

On state television IRIB, Guard commander Hassan Hassanzadeh said registrations had crossed six hundred thousand and could approach one million trainees, according to Al Jazeera’s relay. That on-air tally exceeds the 313,000 street figure officials gave for the capital. Al Jazeera matched neither number to independent observation. The broadcast registration pitch sits above a march whose size the outlet left unverified.[1]

A defiance frame from wire copy

Wire copy on PBS and NBC, carried by Al Jazeera, labelled the display the strongest defiance rally since Washington and Tel Aviv struck in February while noting divergent estimates. Al Jazeera passed along that comparative line without its own headcount audit. The retained card keeps street scale open even as it records official and broadcast registration figures. Politics is on the page; verified attendance is not.[1]
