Poland scrambled jets as Russia struck Ukraine with jet-powered drones

Al Jazeera writes that Poland scrambled fighter jets and placed air-defence systems on high readiness during a wide Russian aerial attack on Ukraine, then stood the brief operation down after finding no airspace violation. The Daily Mirror, quoting the same Operational Command statement, times the deployment shortly after 09:00 local time and says ground-based air defence and radar reached readiness.

Operational Command opened flights inside Polish airspace

Al Jazeera quotes Poland's Operational Command on X on Saturday: in connection with Russian Federation strikes using jet-powered unmanned aerial vehicles on Ukraine, military aviation operations began in Polish airspace. The command said it had activated all necessary forces and that ground-based air defence and radar reconnaissance reached the highest state of readiness. The Daily Mirror reprints that same sentence and adds that the measures came shortly after 09:00 local time, 08:00 UK time, as a precaution near the Ukraine border.[1], [2]

The alert was stood down after no violation

Al Jazeera writes that the brief operation concluded shortly after, with ground-based air defence and radar units returning to standard duty, and that the command confirmed no airspace violations while remaining on alert to monitor the border. The Mirror does not carry that stand-down sentence; it stays with the scramble and the readiness of ground systems. The shared core is the Saturday command statement; the stand-down is Al Jazeera's follow-up.[1], [2]

The Mirror timed the scramble; Al Jazeera added Russia's Duma-front claims

The Daily Mirror attributes the scramble to Poland's Operational Command of the Armed Forces and describes jet-powered drone strikes across neighbouring Ukraine. Al Jazeera places the same scramble beside a Russian Defence Ministry claim of territorial advances exceeding 5,300 square kilometres this year, including 670 square kilometres in September, and of fighting on the approaches to the Kramatorsk-Slovyansk agglomeration. Those Russian figures are Al Jazeera's extras; they are not in the Mirror item.[2], [1]
