Washington floats technical Ukraine talks in the Emirates, with no date set
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Friday that the United States proposed a technical, three-way meeting with Russia and named the United Arab Emirates as a possible place. Kyiv is waiting for Washington to propose the day. Washington has not commented, and the Kremlin said a similar three-way idea came up on an earlier Putin-Trump call.

Zelenskyy describes a technical three-way meeting
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told reporters on Friday that the American side proposed preparing a meeting with Russia at a technical level, in a three-way format. What is proposed is a technical meeting among Russia, Ukraine and the United States, not a session of the three leaders. Kyiv said it is waiting for the United States to propose the date.[1], [2]
The Emirates are a possible place, not a fixed table
Zelenskyy named the United Arab Emirates as a possible location, describing it as a place that might be used rather than a meeting already on the calendar. According to Anadolu Agency, Washington suggested the venue. No day has been announced.[1], [2]
The format stays below the leaders
The meeting Zelenskyy described would bring technical delegations together to prepare talks, not put the presidents in one room. According to Anadolu Agency, the United Arab Emirates already hosted two rounds of US-mediated talks between Russia and Ukraine in Abu Dhabi this year, on 23-24 January and 4-5 February. The United States has not commented on Friday's remarks. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said at a briefing later that day that the possibility of a meeting among Russian, Ukrainian and US representatives was discussed on a phone call between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump earlier this month.[1], [2]
