A court orders three months in custody
A 55-year-old Russian citizen detained in Świdnica, a town in southwestern Poland, was ordered held for three months pending investigation. Polish police said he had photographed trains and railway infrastructure. Prosecutors allege that he gathered the material for a foreign intelligence service. The suspect has not received a final conviction.[1], [2]
Officers noticed the man near railway crossings
Officers providing security for a football match noticed the man near a railway crossing. He drove away and was seen again near a railway bridge. Police said he appeared nervous and moved towards his vehicle as they approached. During the intervention, officers found photographic equipment used to take pictures of passing trains and infrastructure.[1]
Seized devices contain images from several locations
Investigators seized mobile phones, laptops, cameras and storage devices. Police said the files documented transport facilities and other important infrastructure, including places outside Poland. Examination of the images was continuing. Officials had not announced a proven connection between this photography and a specific sabotage attack. Polish authorities’ wider concerns about Russian operations remain separate from the allegation against this individual.[1]
