Crew-13 clears review, but its October launch is still a target

NASA, SpaceX and international partners agreed on September 25 to continue preparations for the four-person Crew-13 flight after a readiness review in Florida. The decision clears this stage of preparation; it is neither a launch nor the final countdown decision. The crew is due at Kennedy Space Center next, with liftoff still targeted no earlier than October 1.

Partners clear the next preparation step

NASA, SpaceX and international partners gave Crew-13 a go to continue preparations on September 25 after a Flight Readiness Review in Florida. The decision applies to preparation for the crewed flight to the International Space Station. It does not report a liftoff or settle the conditions that will face the team on launch day.[1], [2]

Transport and station readiness were examined

The review took place at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, the US agency’s launch operations site in Florida. NASA says the participants examined SpaceX’s transportation system, mission operations and support functions, as well as whether the station was ready to receive the incoming crew. The four astronauts were scheduled to reach Kennedy on September 26 for the final preparation period.[1]

October 1 remains the earliest launch target

Crew-13 is still targeted for no earlier than October 1 on a SpaceX Falcon 9 from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station’s Launch Complex 40. NASA names Jessica Watkins as commander and Luke Delaney as pilot; Canadian Space Agency astronaut Joshua Kutryk and Russian space agency Roscosmos cosmonaut Sergey Teteryatnikov are the mission specialists. The review brings that four-person station flight closer to its attempt, while the stated date remains a target.[1], [2]
