Alonso restores his lead after a late slide

David Alonso won the Malaysian Moto2 race at Sepang, with Aspar teammate Daniel Holgado second and Angel Piqueras third. It was the Colombian’s second victory of the season and Piqueras’s first podium in the class. Alonso had a rear-end slide at the fourteenth corner with about three laps remaining. Holgado closed in, but the leader recovered and rebuilt his advantage before the final lap.[1], [2]

The lead changes hands on the sixth lap

Holgado started from pole and retained the lead, while Piqueras initially held second. Alonso passed Piqueras on the second lap to put both Aspar riders at the front. His next move came at the fourth corner on lap six, where he overtook Holgado for first place. Piqueras held on behind the teammates, earning his podium during a rookie season interrupted by injury.[1]

Guevara cuts Gonzalez’s championship margin

Izan Guevara finished fourth ahead of championship leader Manuel Gonzalez, reducing their gap to 3.5 points. Gonzalez had started ninth and advanced to fifth by the fourth lap after passing Daniel Muñoz and Alonso Lopez. He could not catch Guevara. Adrian Huertas took sixth for his best Moto2 result, while Collin Veijer passed Ivan Ortola on the last lap for seventh. Celestino Vietti and Alex Escrig completed the top ten.[1]
