The last segment begins at 442.8
Wang Zifei and Sheng Lihao won the 10 m air rifle mixed team gold in Doha with 506.1 points, ahead of Du Yuchen and Zhang Changhong on 504.4. The final segment shows how the lead survived the meeting of the two Chinese teams. Wang and Sheng entered it with 442.8 points against their rivals’ 440.9. That 1.9-point advantage had already been earned before the closing shots.[1]
Wang added 32.1 and Sheng 31.2 in the final segment, a combined 63.3 points. Du contributed 31.9 and Zhang 31.6, making 63.5. The silver medallists scored 0.2 more in that segment. The gap therefore fell from 1.9 to 1.7 without changing the order. The higher closing-segment score and the higher final total belonged to different teams.[1]
The first-stage totals of 315.7 and 314.6 left a gap of 1.1. At the next cumulative totals, 379.6 and 377.7, it had grown to 1.9. It stayed there at 442.8 and 440.9. Wang and Sheng’s gold has a sequence that can be followed without assigning it to a single final shot: take the lead in the opening stage, extend it in the next segment and limit the rivals’ closing gain to 0.2. That calculation describes the progression of the scores alone.[1]
Two contributions, two comparisons
The individual final totals also separate the contributions to the margin. Wang scored 253.2 against Du’s 252.6, a difference of 0.6. Sheng’s 252.9 exceeded Zhang’s 251.8 by 1.1. Those two differences add up to 1.7. Assigning the mixed team result only to one shooter’s higher individual score overlooks the other shooter’s contribution to the same total. Gold rests on the arithmetic that counts both scores together.[1]
The final sheet lists a world record of 507.1, set by Wang and Sheng at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya on 22 September. Their Doha score of 506.1 was 1.0 point below it, while still sufficient for first place in this final. The distance from the world record provides one comparison of the performance; the 1.7-point margin over Du and Zhang determines the medal order here. Keeping those measures separate makes the arithmetic of gold clear even without a new world record.[1]
