The file sits beside the chat
In Microsoft's 25 September post, Home joins chat with Cowork. The everyday job is to open a Word, Excel or PowerPoint file without carrying it to another app. The post says the file stays editable for the team and stays in sync with the Office apps.[1]
Code uses the same technology as GitHub Copilot and runs in a sandboxed environment inside the tenant. Autopilot, formerly Scout, is a persistent agent. It has its own identity, memory, computer and workspace. It can be mentioned in Teams, Outlook and documents.[1]
The piece that is on, and the piece that is dated
Microsoft dates the Frontier rollout of Home and Code to the weeks after this post, and Autopilot's private preview to the end of the month. The product is not standing as a finished general release. The same post says the Fabric IQ piece that grounds chat and Cowork in Power BI semantic models is generally available today.[1]
The Verge names the same three parts and does not add a separate product launch beyond that redesign. My read is this: the tab in hand is a schedule stretched between Frontier weeks and a month-end preview, rather than a layer already as influential as Office. Fabric IQ reaching general availability does not mean the file tab is open too. The other reading is that a Frontier invite already shows that tab on some accounts.[1], [2]
