Project N.E.K.O. takes the top prize
Bilibili announced the winners of the first Build in Bilibili AI creation contest in Shanghai on September 5. Project N.E.K.O., developed by Doctor W and AI Catwoman, placed first and received 1 million yuan. The total prize pool was 1.43 million yuan. Both independent reports say 13,400 creators entered more than 30,000 submissions. Those figures put the first season on a broader footing than a showcase built around one product.[1], [2]
Participation concentrated among small teams
IT之家's participation breakdown says 64 percent of contestants had no professional software-development background. More than 80 percent entered as one-person teams, while 88 percent had fewer than 10,000 followers. About half of the top 10 winners also had not reached 10,000 followers before the contest. The distribution shows that the prizes were not confined to large studios or already established creators.[2]
Contest projects attract early investors
36Kr reports that two projects emerging from the contest received early-stage investment. A robotics project led by Tsinghua University assistant professor Xu Huazhe raised an angel round from Yunqi Capital, Baidu and Shunwei Capital. Another interactive project received backing from Jinqiu Fund and Shoucheng Holdings. The terms were not disclosed, so the round sizes remain figures supplied by the parties; the deals nevertheless document a route from the contest to outside capital for some projects.[1]
