Mate XT 2 carries Huawei's on-device model support for 30 billion parameters

Huawei introduced the tri-fold Mate XT 2 with its Kirin 9050 Pro. The company says the chip's neural processor can run an on-device multimodal mixture-of-experts model with 30 billion total parameters. HarmonyOS 7 also moves the Xiaoyi assistant and tools intended to detect AI-altered voices into the system layer, while the numerical performance claims remain independently untested.

Mate XT 2 arrives with the Kirin 9050 Pro

TrendForce and IT Home report that Huawei introduced the tri-fold Mate XT 2 with the Kirin 9050 Pro at its 7 September launch. The new phone has a 6.5-inch outer display, expands to a 10.2-inch screen and runs HarmonyOS 7. The publishers agree on the product and chip identity, while the numerical capability details come from Huawei's event presentation. That distinction confirms the launch without turning performance claims into independent measurements.[1], [2]

The on-device model activates 2 billion parameters per operation

Huawei says the Kirin 9050 Pro's Da Vinci-architecture neural processor runs an on-device multimodal mixture-of-experts model with 30 billion total parameters, activating 2 billion for each operation. The company also claimed gains over the earlier Mate XTs of 42 per cent in overall performance, 24 per cent in peak single-core performance and 142 per cent in rendering performance. These are Huawei's launch figures; the reports do not provide independent benchmark results.[2]

HarmonyOS 7 places Xiaoyi inside system tasks

HarmonyOS 7 moves the Xiaoyi assistant into operating-system tasks including job-search help, child-care support, home monitoring and calls. Huawei also announced tools intended to detect overseas call forwarding, AI-altered voices and risky web pages. Those functions show the first user-facing applications of its on-device model support. Independent testing has not yet established their everyday accuracy or the chip's speed against competing hardware.[2]
