Husqvarna wins first robotics exemption from FCC covered list following national security review
The US Federal Communications Commission granted conditional approvals for four Husqvarna robotic mower platforms, marking the first robotics exemption from its foreign covered list since restrictions took effect. FCC and War Department grant conditional robotics clearance
The US Federal Communications Commission released a public notice confirming that the US Department of War granted conditional approvals for four advanced robotic lawn mower platforms manufactured by Swedish firm Husqvarna. The decision marks the first commercial robotics exemption from the FCC's covered list since the agency prohibited foreign-manufactured autonomous robotics and network equipment.[1], [2]
Under the regulatory determination, Husqvarna is authorized to import and distribute its 305v IQ, 310v IQ, 420v IQ, and 440v IQ robotic platforms indefinitely, clearing their planned 2027 United States launch. Unlike temporary exemptions issued to router makers such as Asus, which expire in March 2028, Husqvarna's clearance covers both its upcoming residential and commercial automower platforms alongside models already active on the market.[1], [2]
Husqvarna points to European privacy and hardware standards
Husqvarna Group chief executive Glen Instone said the approval reflects the company's standards for quality, security and customer data handling under EU privacy rules. Instone acknowledged limited residential penetration so far and said the company sees significant growth potential in the years ahead.[1], [2]
