Reddit sets November 13 shutdown for subscription feeds

Reddit will end subscription feeds support on November 13, citing large-scale scraping and automated abuse. Moderators are being directed toward tools on its developer platform for alerts, but feeds from communities they do not moderate have no replacement. The announcement also sets registration requirements for bots and changes moderation tools and access conditions as the platform shifts its infrastructure.

Subscription feeds end on November 13

Reddit announced that support for subscription feeds will end on November 13. The standard feed format used to follow website updates in a feed reader, currently lets people subscribe to community posts. The company announced the shutdown in its September 30 infrastructure update. Reddit cites large-scale scraping and automated abuse. For moderator alerts, it recommends tools such as Discord Relay on Devvit, its application platform. It says there is no replacement for feeds from communities where the subscriber is not a moderator.[1], [2]

Bot maintainers face a January registration deadline

More than 14,000 apps and bots have registered for Reddit’s developer platform. Maintainers are asked to register before January 12, 2027 to avoid interruption. Communities that rely on a bot but do not know its owner can submit a form; Reddit says it has received more than 100 such submissions.[1]

Existing moderation tools retain their functions

Communities already using AutoModerator retain its functions. In new communities and those that never used it, enforcement tools move to Rules Hub and Automations, while non-enforcement functions remain available. Reddit also plans to restrict Old Reddit to logged-in accounts that used it within the previous six months, exempting logged-in moderators from that recent-use condition.[1]
