Ferguson, Michael and Kupor join the specified leadership
US President Donald Trump’s Sunday announcement specifies the officials who will lead the Super Intelligence Force, his administration’s artificial intelligence task force. Alongside chair Jay Clayton, the director of national intelligence, the team includes Andrew Ferguson, Emil Michael and Scott Kupor. TechCrunch identifies the three as vice chairs. ABC News also reports the same named officials in the group’s leadership.[1], [2]
The three vice chairs represent different federal responsibilities
Ferguson chairs the Federal Trade Commission, the US competition and consumer-protection regulator. Michael is the defence undersecretary responsible for research and engineering. Kupor directs the Office of Personnel Management, which oversees federal personnel management. Their membership identifies competition oversight, defence research and the federal workforce within the leadership alongside intelligence. Clayton’s chairmanship had already been reported; the newly named vice chairs supply the additional membership detail.[1]
The named team will coordinate federal engagement on AI
The group's reported charter includes plans to respond to threats enabled by superintelligence while preventing excessive regulation and regulatory capture from hindering innovation and competition. Trump says the task force will coordinate federal efforts on the technology. He had announced an AI Force in September and subsequently sought to replace the term artificial intelligence with superintelligence in government usage. The Sunday announcement follows that earlier plan and now specifies the officials serving alongside its already identified chair.[1]
