UK backs a robotics support network with 40 million pounds

The UK government is backing eight robotics adoption hubs with 40 million pounds to help businesses and public services deploy robots. The network spans agriculture, surgery, public spaces and recycling, with advice, demonstrations and workforce support. A further 2.5 million pounds funds twelve training projects covering the skills needed to select, integrate, operate and maintain robotics.

Eight hubs support practical deployment

The UK government has announced a network of robotics adoption hubs backed by 40 million pounds. It supports businesses and public services seeking to put robots and autonomous systems into practical use.[1], [2]

The eight hubs provide help with selecting technology, understanding costs and practical requirements, and seeing demonstrations in working environments. The program connects organizations with suppliers, specialists who integrate systems, and finance providers. Universities, research institutions, local authorities and businesses participate in the partnerships.[1]

Agriculture, surgery and recycling get dedicated support

In the UK, Lincoln’s agriculture and food hub offers testbeds for arable crops, fruit, vegetables and food manufacturing. Newcastle’s hub supports surgical robotics. Milton Keynes focuses on robots in public spaces, including service robots, drones and driverless vehicles. A Southeast hub addresses waste and recycling.[1]

Training covers selection, operation and maintenance

The program allocates another 2.5 million pounds to twelve training projects involving professional development, apprenticeships and workforce outreach. These address skills for specifying, procuring, integrating, operating and maintaining robotics. Yorkshire’s hub also offers vendor-neutral support, feasibility studies, demonstrations and workforce training, while Southwest and Wales hubs provide regional guidance and investment preparation.[1]
