Tesla says Austin’s Cybercab fleet has passed 300 vehicles

Tesla says more than 300 Cybercabs now serve Austin, describing an eightfold increase in the month since paid rides began. Its AI software chief also pointed to Dallas, where Model Y robotaxis already operate, without giving a Cybercab start date. The announcement does not disclose how many vehicles retain safety monitors or how frequently staff intervene.

Tesla announces more than 300 vehicles in Austin

Tesla said on October 10 that more than 300 Cybercabs were serving Austin, Texas. Its Robotaxi account described an eightfold increase in 30 days since paid rides began. Tesla’s main account shared the announcement, accompanied by video of gold Cybercabs on city streets.[1], [2]

Cybercab is the company’s purpose-built two-seat robotaxi, without a steering wheel or pedals. Paying passengers began using it in Texas in early September, after the first batches entered the state’s automated-vehicle registry. The latest operating count is Tesla’s own statement about its fleet.[1]

Registration and passenger service carry different counts

Earlier this month, the registered Cybercab count increased from 169 to 319 following the addition of 150 vehicle identification numbers. Registration establishes an authorized vehicle, while the new announcement describes vehicles serving riders. Tesla did not disclose how many of the announced vehicles retain a safety monitor or the frequency of intervention by staff or remote operators.[1]

Dallas is mentioned without a Cybercab date

Tesla AI software chief Ashok Elluswamy shared the fleet announcement and pointed to Dallas next. Tesla already operates Robotaxi there with Model Ys. Elluswamy’s statement concerns bringing Cybercab to that existing service, without specifying a start date, a new service boundary or an assigned Cybercab count.[1]
