Gemini manages notebook content directly from chat

Google has connected Gemini Notebook to the Gemini application, allowing people to work with notebooks from a conversation. The connection supports changing notebook content as well as using it to answer questions. Organizational access depends on enabling both services, while the initial connection setting differs between the European Economic Area and other regions.

Notebook work moves into Gemini conversations

Google has added Gemini Notebook, its notebook service, to the connected applications in Gemini. The connection lets people work with their notebooks from a Gemini conversation.[1], [2]

The company lists creating, editing and deleting notebooks among the supported actions. Sources inside a notebook can also be added, updated or removed. People can list their notebooks and the sources they contain, or save important notes from a conversation. These actions change the notebook’s contents as well as retrieve information from it.[1]

Existing notebooks supply context for answers

Users can mention the notebook application by name in a prompt. Gemini can also select the connection automatically when a request is relevant. Existing notebook content can then provide context for an answer. Google’s examples include creating a notebook about market trends, saving a course-related chat and listing every source in a notebook about national parks. Another example asks what existing notebooks say about a particular subject.[1]

Organizations must enable both services

Organizational administrators must enable both Gemini and Gemini Notebook for the relevant group or organizational unit. End users control the connection through Gemini’s Connected Apps settings. Its default is off in the European Economic Area and on elsewhere. Google lists access for Workspace customers, Workspace Individual subscribers and personal accounts, across both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains.[1]
