Telefónica completes its OGA stake to expand industrial AI services

Telefónica España completed the acquisition of 10 percent of OGA, adding a shareholding to a two-year supplier relationship. A commercial and technical alliance will bring the Spanish company’s industrial AI technology into services for businesses and public bodies. Founder Juan Carlos Rubio retains 90 percent, and Telefónica says it will stay outside OGA’s governing body. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The share purchase keeps control with OGA’s founder

Telefónica España, the Spanish telecommunications operator, completed the purchase of 10 percent of OGA, a developer of artificial intelligence and industrial-process optimization technology. The transaction includes a commercial and technical alliance aimed at services for businesses and public administrations. The companies already had a supplier relationship before Telefónica became a shareholder.[1], [2]

Founder and chief executive Juan Carlos Rubio retains the remaining 90 percent of OGA. Telefónica says it will not join the company’s governing body, preserving OGA’s independence. Financial terms were not disclosed. The acquisition had been reported in September; its completion on October 26 adds an ownership relationship to the earlier service arrangement without transferring control of the company.[1], [2]

Industrial tools enter Telefónica’s service offering

The alliance aims to incorporate OGA’s technology into Telefónica’s offering for large companies and public bodies. Its fields include industry, logistics, energy, healthcare and defense. OGA combines AI, machine learning, mathematical optimization and simulation to turn data into operational decisions. Digital twins, meaning digital copies of facilities, equipment or processes, are among the tools intended to support those decisions.[2]

Telefónica places the investment within its Transform & Grow strategy for 2026–2030, which seeks to expand digital services and participation in armed-forces tenders through Telefónica Defensa y Seguridad, its defense and security operation. Javier López Gutiérrez, Telefónica España’s defense and security director, linked the purchase to stronger industrial and defense AI services. Rubio described technological sovereignty in Spain and Europe as an aim of the alliance.[1]

A two-year supplier relationship precedes the investment

OGA is based in Camas near Seville, Spain, and has a New York office. Its workforce exceeds 75 specialists in mathematics, statistics, engineering and data science. Founded in 2007 under the legal name qosITconsulting SL, it recorded 1.68 million euros of revenue in 2024. Its advisory council includes 14 university researchers. During the two years before the share purchase, OGA supplied Telefónica with simulation and digital-twin technology. Its customers also include industrial and energy companies and Spain’s Ministry of Defense.[1], [2]
