Privacy organization noyb has filed five complaints against Scale AI over personal data collected from workers on its Outlier platform. Five filings cover four countries

Data-protection organization noyb announced five complaints against Scale AI over the treatment of workers’ information on Outlier, its AI-training platform. Filings were made in France, Italy, the Netherlands and Austria, with two in Austria. The workers carry out tasks such as drafting example prompts, ranking responses and evaluating outputs used in AI development.[1], [2]

Trackers and biometric checks are challenged

The complainants say third-party trackers send workers’ IP addresses, contact details, identifiers and visited-page information to other companies during work. Their statement names TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook, Sprig and Datadog trackers. A separate objection concerns repeated biometric verification through Persona, involving facial video and identity documents. noyb reports Scale AI’s explanations as preventing identity fraud and verifying workers’ skills, while arguing that the collection exceeds what is necessary.[1]

Authorities are asked to investigate

noyb also alleges that access requests went unanswered and challenges the legal basis for tracking and compliance with data-minimization duties. It seeks a full investigation and administrative fines. The filings were prepared with Intérêt à Agir, DIPLab and Reversing.Works as part of work on conditions across AI value chains. They are complaints awaiting regulatory assessment, rather than an announced finding of illegality or an imposed penalty.[1]
