Agoda expands its conversational travel assistant to 21 markets

Agoda has expanded its mobile AI Assistant to 21 markets after a limited September test. Travelers can compare options and continue toward booking within the same conversation, using live inventory and a persistent trip plan. OpenAI models handle the main conversation, while Gemini connects restaurant and attraction queries to Google Maps information.

September trial becomes a wider rollout

Agoda, the digital travel platform, has expanded its AI Assistant to 21 countries and territories after a limited test in September. The October 30 announcement describes a mobile-app service that connects discovering a destination, planning a journey and booking travel within the same conversation. The assistant can retain preferences and the context of a trip while users compare alternatives. Existing trips can also be linked to a conversation, allowing travelers to continue planning around arrangements they have already made.[1], [2]

The assistant draws on Agoda’s live accommodation inventory alongside flights, tours, attractions and supplementary travel services. Users can ask for suggestions, compare available options and check current prices and availability before continuing toward a booking. The company’s example follows a five-day family trip to Osaka in Japan, including comparisons between neighborhoods and searches for restaurants. The conversation preserves the developing plan rather than asking travelers to restart their requirements at each step.[1], [2]

The accommodation inventory contains more than six million options. Flights, tours and attraction tickets are additional categories that can be combined as travelers develop a journey. Agoda says the beta users of its assistant were more likely to book across these different product types. The company’s announcement describes that observation without a user count or experimental design.[1], [2]

Trip canvas keeps decisions visible

A feature called Trip Planner Canvas groups upcoming bookings, places the traveler wants to visit and ideas that have not yet become firm arrangements. Earlier choices stay visible as the traveler types another response or taps a suggested option. Agoda has also integrated web search, adding current information from outside its own travel inventory. The company describes these connections as a way to bring planning steps that otherwise span chat services, search engines, maps and booking applications into its mobile service.[1]

OpenAI conversation connects with Google Maps information

OpenAI models power the main conversational system. Restaurant and attraction queries use Gemini, Google’s AI model service, with Google Maps Grounding, a connection to information held in the mapping service. That supplies locations, opening hours, photographs and reviews alongside the travel platform’s booking information. The assistant is accessed through the AI Assistant tab in the mobile app’s bottom navigation bar, which opens a chat for journey details.[1], [2]
