Meta sets March 2027 as the final feature update for Quest 2 and Quest Pro
Meta has set a timetable for ending new operating-system features on Quest 2 and Quest Pro. The final update is planned for March 2027, followed by security patches and critical fixes through the end of that year. New application submissions have a separate December deadline as development shifts toward Quest 3 and Quest 3S.

The final system-feature release is scheduled
Meta has announced the end of feature development for Quest 2 and Quest Pro, its older virtual-reality headsets. The company plans their final operating-system update for March 2027. New system features are moving to a newer hardware baseline, while owners of the older headsets enter a remaining period of software support. Meta still counts millions of people playing on the devices. Its announcement sets out separate dates for system features, security work and new application submissions.[1], [2]
Security fixes continue through the end of 2027
The final operating-system release is planned to be v213. Meta says security patches and critical bug fixes are to continue through the end of 2027 after feature development ends. Developers can also submit new applications supporting Quest 2 or Quest Pro through December 2027. Those schedules concern different parts of support: the final feature update comes before the deadline for new application submissions. The company is announcing the timetable ahead of the final release.[1]
New development centers on Quest 3 and Quest 3S
Quest 2 launched in 2020 and Quest Pro followed in 2022; Meta discontinued both in 2024. The company now treats Quest 3 and Quest 3S as the baseline for new virtual-reality development, citing their additional processing headroom and built-in mixed reality. It says applications built for those headsets carry forward to the VR glasses it plans for spring 2027. Those glasses are intended to use the same operating system and software development tools.[1]
