AWS Web Answer combines web research and cited answers in one call
AWS has made Web Answer generally available on Amazon Bedrock AgentCore. A natural-language question triggers web research and returns an answer with citations through a managed tool. Administrators can restrict domains, while individual requests can narrow the permitted sources further and specify publication dates or a country for the search.

One question triggers research and a cited answer
Amazon Web Services, or AWS, has made Web Answer generally available on Bedrock AgentCore, its platform for building AI agents. A natural-language question starts web research and returns a synthesized answer carrying source citations. The tool manages source search, page retrieval, answer generation and citation assembly behind a single call. AWS’s existing Web Search instead returns search results for an application’s model to process.[1], [2]
Gateway connects agents to the managed tool
Web Answer is accessed through AgentCore Gateway, the platform’s tool-access layer. It works with clients using Model Context Protocol, the protocol for connecting models to tools. The Gateway’s service role receives permission to invoke Web Answer, so developers do not store a separate tool credential. Access to the agent’s own Bedrock model uses a separate authorization path. Results contain answer text and a structured citations list.[1]
Request filters can narrow the administrator’s policy
Administrators can allow selected domains and exclude others at the tool target. An individual request can narrow those permissions further or add exclusions, but cannot restore a domain the administrator blocked. Publication-date limits focus research on a chosen period, while a country option localizes the results. Developers continue to decide when their application should call Web Answer; the managed service performs the research and synthesis after that call.[1]
