The adjusted profit arrived; the schedule for the capital did not
Nebius closed the quarter with positive adjusted EBITDA and CoreWeave carried its backlog to 104.2 billion dollars. A third release, Cisco's, answers the question the other two leave open: how much of the order book turns into revenue, and in which year?
The doctrine invoked in Panama is 19th-century; the permission in Colombia is a week old
Hegseth gave a 19th-century doctrine's name to today's hemispheric policy. That doctrine asserted US primacy across the Americas; the reach described in Panama runs through permission granted in Bogotá. That link pins the arrangement's life span to Colombia's political calendar.
The etching step fell from 24 hours to 30 seconds; the line itself is what remains
A Rice University team moved MXene synthesis's etching step out of a liquid hydrofluoric acid bath and into a 30-second gas-phase pulse, repeating it across nine different MAX phases. The number the evidence carries is reaction time per phase; feeding, gas handling and product separation, which decide a production line, are a separate account.
The Gulf's way out of Hormuz was laid before the war
Saudi Arabia shifted nearly all its crude through the East-West Pipeline to the port of Yanbu; the United Arab Emirates, better equipped on paper, has not done the same. What decides the difference is a pipeline laid years ago and the geography of the ports.
The harness is free, DeepSeek's endpoint is priced
DeepSeek did two things on the same day: it opened its coding harness to everyone under an MIT licence and raised its interface prices from August 16. The piece that passes to the developer is the free one, and the piece they keep paying for is the priced one.
The IEA cut demand again, and the balance tightened anyway
A cut of 510,000 barrels a day to this year's demand forecast looks at first like a bearish revision. In the same report the IEA widened the third-quarter deficit to 1.8 million barrels a day, because supply fell faster than demand. The buffer covering the difference is the stack of crude the world can actually see, and it has thinned by 410 million barrels since the war began.
The refund is booked in earnings; 2.1 billion dollars is in the bank
The tariff refunds reported by Apple, Nike and FedEx come to 9.6 billion dollars; the cash collected is 2.1 billion dollars. The gap is a question of payment schedule, and a new duty starting on Aug. 19 waits in front of the same importers.
What counts as a paper decides how much disruption declined
Holst and colleagues trace part of the fall in the disruption index to entries that carry no references. Park, Leahey and Funk answer that 20 per cent of the critics' own sample is not research at all, down to 456 For Dummies guides. The quantity in dispute moves with the filter each team applied.
Who takes over what the coalition was doing?
The end of the coalition mission in Iraq now has a date, fixed by Ali al-Zaidi at 30 September. That date measures presence. The second condition in the same statement, all weapons under exclusive state control, carries no date at all.
Whose pockets did the revenue increase come out of?
Revenue reached a high in the GERS statistics and the deficit narrowed. National insurance contributions rose 2.4 billion pounds and income tax 1.5 billion pounds, while offshore receipts fell. The improvement was collected from earnings, and the per-person figures cannot say from whose.
