Okinawa's first post-reversion governor inherits the 1996 bargain
Genta Koja's win ends 12 years of governors who fought the Futenma relocation. The first governor born after the island's 1972 return to Japan campaigned on income rather than on the base, and an arrangement older than he is now passes into his hands.
Retail sold 9.9104 trillion won of KOSPI last week; the buyback desks bought it
The index gained 3.33 per cent on the week while its own largest issuers were the marginal buyer. That is a floor with an expiry date, and Monday's 3.37 per cent drop is its first test.
Swinney, ap Iorwerth and O'Neill test Britain's devolution bargain
Three party leaders signed a self-determination agreement in Cardiff, but the gap between a declared right and a legal route leaves London holding the constitutional switch.
Teruel's Diplodocus puts Europe back in the Morrison's Jurassic room
14 tail vertebrae from El Castellar place Diplodocus on both sides of a Late Jurassic proto-Atlantic that could close into a land bridge. The genus now keeps the Morrison Formation and eastern Iberia in one faunal room.
The 10-year printed 5.01 per cent; analysts already watch 5 per cent against equities
The benchmark 10-year Treasury yield was last up 3.51 basis points at 5.01 per cent on Monday. The level is technical; the reason is economic: an oil and diesel inflation channel and AI borrowing are two separate inputs into the same threshold.
The first seller above 5 per cent on the 10-year sits in the cash-futures trade
The 10-year print at 5.014 per cent and the slip to 4.987 per cent tests whether leveraged cash-futures holders must sell together.
Anthropic is leasing 13.7 billion dollars of compute over six years from Rumble owner RUM Group
Anthropic has signed a six-year, 13.7 billion dollar computing deal with RUM Group, the owner of the video platform Rumble and the AI cloud company Northern Data, The Information reported on Sunday evening, citing a person familiar with the matter. RUM Group had disclosed the contract to US regulators on 24 August without naming the buyer, together with a warrant for up to 50.8 million shares at one cent each. Neither company has confirmed the report, and RUM Group has not yet financed the Georgia site.
Anthropic, OpenAI and Google have been designing their own AI standards body since July
Working groups from Anthropic, OpenAI and Google, staffed by executives below chief-executive level, have met regularly since July on a voluntary industry body that would set safety-testing and auditing rules, The Information reported on 13 September, citing people familiar with the talks. The discussions began before Dario Amodei's weekend call for coordination and, in Seoul Economic Daily's reading, aim at a self-regulatory framework while a draft White House order for a standards body sits stalled. None of the three companies has confirmed the report.
ATLAS ran oxygen-on-proton collisions at CERN to mimic cosmic-ray air showers
A 14 September write-up of a Physical Review Letters result describes ATLAS's first lab collisions of oxygen nuclei on protons at CERN, used to mimic cosmic-ray hits in air. Outgoing particles and energies were counted, putting the measured properties more than 10 times sharper than the models had given. Independent same-day news pages for that PRL did not serve.
Baldwin Group agrees to a 7.7 billion dollar take-private led by Michael Dell's DFO and Sequence
The Baldwin Group, a Tampa insurance brokerage, has signed a definitive agreement to be taken private by an entity formed by Sequence Holdings and DFO Management, the investment firm of Dell Technologies founder Michael Dell, in an all-cash deal of 7.7 billion dollars. Under the agreement shareholders receive 32.50 dollars a share in cash, and the companies plan to close in the first quarter of 2027. The Financial Times had reported advanced talks on Sunday, when Baldwin was valued at about 4.14 billion dollars.
