Bloomberg opens licensed market data to customer AI agents
Bloomberg has launched Enterprise MCP so customer AI agents can find and retrieve licensed Data License Plus information. The interface carries field definitions, currencies and dates alongside values and checks a client’s access rights before returning data. Bloomberg hosts the connection while customers control their agents. Real-time data remains a future plan, so the launch concerns governed access to the existing licensed collection.
Burnham opens UK review to possible return to the EU
Prime Minister Andy Burnham said the UK government would examine its options for a longer-term relationship with the European Union, including a customs union, the single market and eventual membership. He also left the current arrangement on the table. His remarks reopen a question Labour’s 2024 platform had set aside, but the government has announced neither a preferred route nor a membership application.
Butterfly wing patterns made flight direction harder to judge
High-contrast patterns on butterfly wings created misleading motion signals as the animals took off, a peer-reviewed study found. Researchers combined high-speed footage with vision models, comparisons across butterfly lineages and behavior tests. The moving pattern could make speed and direction look different from the body’s actual path. The findings explain a possible defense against predators, although attacks by wild birds were not directly measured across species.
Carnival posts record profit while fuel weighs on gross yields
Carnival Corporation’s third-quarter 2026 net income reached 1.9 billion dollars and revenue reached 8.44 billion dollars, both company records. Constant-currency net yields rose 2.4 per cent from a year earlier, while higher fuel costs pushed gross-margin yields down 1.3 per cent. Customer deposits reached a third-quarter record, and management raised its full-year outlook despite the fuel headwind.
Caterpillar agrees to buy Fabick Cat’s 37-location dealer network
Caterpillar has agreed to acquire John Fabick Tractor Company, whose 37 dealer locations serve Wisconsin and parts of three neighbouring states. The companies expect to close within 30 days, subject to regulatory approval and customary conditions. The price was not disclosed. The agreement would transfer ownership of a long-standing independent network, while Caterpillar says it intends to maintain local customer service.
China's manufacturing index returns to expansion in September
China’s official manufacturing purchasing managers’ index rose from 49.8 in August to 50.1 in September, moving back above the 50 threshold that signals monthly expansion. The production measure strengthened, new orders stayed above the line, and the employment measure remained below it. The mixed components qualify the headline turn: stronger factory activity was not matched by an equally broad improvement in hiring or demand across the survey.
Cloudflare’s AI-guided firewall test leaves 49 findings for review
Cloudflare has published results from testing its web application firewall with AI-guided attack variations. Across 45 scenarios, the company logged 1,107 attempts and human reviewers retained 49 findings for investigation. The test took place in one authorized staging environment, and an unblocked request did not establish a successful break-in. Cloudflare says the work informed rule changes, some of which were released before this account appeared.
Codex adds cloud environments that retain project setup
OpenAI introduced reusable cloud environments for Codex that preserve a project’s repositories, dependencies and access settings. Developers can start separate tasks from the saved setup and resume work across devices. Teams may share an approved environment, while task workspaces remain separate. The announcement does not include an independent measurement of setup time or code correctness.
Commercial use of an imitated voice may violate rights in Tokyo ruling
The Tokyo District Court said unauthorized use of a performer’s voice to exploit its commercial appeal can infringe publicity rights in a case brought by Kenjiro Tsuda over allegedly imitative TikTok videos. It denied the requested removal order because the account had already been deleted. The ruling answers a legal question that was still pending days earlier; it does not establish infringement in every video or impose a new removal order on TikTok.
DeepMind adds detectable marks to AI-designed proteins
Google DeepMind introduced two SynthID Bio methods that place detectable marks in AI-designed protein sequences and predicted structures. The tested protein binders retained the functions examined in laboratory experiments. Such marks could help identify where a biological design came from, but resistance to deliberate alteration remains unfinished work. The result is a demonstration of provenance marking, not a ready-made safety certification for biological designs.
