DeepSeek brings its matrix kernels to Huawei Ascend
DeepSeek has open-sourced a Huawei Ascend version of DeepGEMM, its library for matrix operations used in AI models. The repository documents Ascend 950 support and compatibility with the earlier DeepGEMM interface. Developers gain another hardware path for these operations, although the published speed figures are DeepSeek’s own measurements and do not establish how much a complete application would accelerate.
Destro raises $8 million as Yusen expands robot coordination
Destro disclosed an $8 million seed round to expand software that coordinates warehouse workers and robots from different makers. At Yusen Logistics, a trial with three cart-moving robots is planned to grow to 26, with a separate 17-robot pilot at another site. The existing trial and proposed expansion are different stages. The financing is intended to help carry the coordination system across more warehouse work and robot types.
Detailed TRIUMPH-2 results show weight loss with retatrutide
Detailed TRIUMPH-2 phase 3 results put experimental retatrutide in focus for adults with type 2 diabetes and obesity or overweight. Over 80 weeks, mean weight loss in the highest-dose group reached 20.8 percent of starting weight, according to figures released by Lilly; HbA1c also fell. The findings currently rest on the manufacturer’s detailed disclosure and a conference presentation. The drug remains investigational, and more complete published data and regulatory review will inform its clinical place.
Disney cuts hundreds of technology and HR jobs
Disney began another round of layoffs affecting a few hundred people, chiefly in technology and human resources. Its film studio and entertainment television operation were largely spared, according to TheWrap. The cuts follow earlier rounds in April and July and an August warning that reductions would continue. The exact number in this round is not public, so the current cuts should not be added mechanically to earlier estimates.
Fed finalizes new stress-test rules for large banks
The Federal Reserve finalized changes to stress tests for large banks, including annual public comment on scenarios and material model changes. Starting in 2028, capital buffers for eligible firms will use the average of two annual test results. The Fed expects the package to reduce yearly swings in capital requirements. The rules change how banks’ resilience under a severe economic downturn is measured.
German September inflation rises to 3.3 per cent as energy prices accelerate
Germany’s preliminary figures put annual consumer price inflation at 3.3 per cent in September, up from 2.9 per cent in August. The annual rise in energy prices accelerated from 10.5 per cent to 14.9 per cent, while inflation excluding food and energy stayed at 2.4 per cent. The gap shows where much of the latest headline increase is concentrated. Final September figures are scheduled for 13 October.
GPT-6.1 Sol launches with access through Bedrock
OpenAI launched GPT-6.1 Sol on September 29, and Amazon made the model available through Bedrock the same day. AWS positions it for multistep coding, document and computer-use tasks. The announced task-cost and performance comparisons rely on OpenAI measurements. Availability through a new cloud route does not establish the same results in every organization’s production workflow.
IBM and Yotta open an India-hosted platform for AI agents
IBM and Yotta have made their joint agent platform generally available to organizations in India. IBM’s watsonx Orchestrate manages the agents, while Yotta supplies the cloud and model tools. The service is offered through two Indian regions, giving customers a locally hosted option for data, inference and operational controls. The companies list security, documents and human resources as possible uses, without reporting how many customers run those workloads.
India directs Ganges treaty talks to joint rivers commission
Indian foreign ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said Ganges water sharing with Bangladesh would be discussed through the Joint Rivers Commission. Technical meetings continue. Bangladesh seeks a new treaty guaranteeing dry-season flows as the 1996 agreement expires on 12 December. Neither side announced agreed replacement terms. The immediate task is to settle the substance of talks before the existing pact runs out.

Kodiak AI named IKEA Supply as the launch shipper for planned driverless long-haul freight in Texas. The roughly 350 km leg between facilities near Houston and Dallas is targeted for later in 2026. Kodiak has carried IKEA goods on the route with a safety observer aboard; the no-person-in-cab service has not started, and its highway safety case remains in progress.
