The loop within the song
An old Tascam tape machine is the starting point for Junior Boys’ Underneath the Moon. Jeremy Greenspan describes using tape loops under the influence of Skinamarink. The single introduces The Gore, announced for 12 February 2027. Before the horror theme, the useful musical clue is the production method: repetition is described as material for the arrangement.[1]
The tape-loop choice may connect Greenspan’s account of impermanence with the making of the song. A repeated sound passing through an analogue machine gives the theme of recollection a tangible production form. Another reading is possible: the technique may be a specific homage to Skinamarink rather than an album-wide structure. One single offers no basis for assuming that every track uses the same method.[1]
A chord beyond the album
The larger formal decision announced for The Gore is that its closing chords meet the opening of Waiting Game. The earlier album, released in 2022, can therefore follow the new one in a loop. This gives their shared themes of grief a concrete musical connection. Release chronology no longer has sole control over listening order: an ending is designed as a junction with another beginning.[1]
That connection is more specific than saying that both albums address the same feeling. A defined join links the close of one to the opening of the other. Matching chords do not establish identical instrumentation or tempo across the two albums. The useful comparison for a listener is narrower: how the end of the new release leads into the beginning of its predecessor.[1]
Time for a complete playback
The presentation programme also makes room for long form. Events announced for Brooklyn, Seattle and Toronto include a complete album playback with visualisations, Michael Snow’s 1967 film Wavelength, and questions and answers with Greenspan. The selected format is collective listening to the recorded album in sequence, rather than an announced transfer to a live instrumental line-up.[1]
For listeners, that choice adds an uninterrupted sequence alongside the circulation of individual songs. The relationship between film and album belongs to the programme as a whole. This is where I place the announcement’s musical weight: a tape loop is a decision within a song, the chord connection shapes a larger form, and the complete playback reserves time for that form. Each deserves attention at its own scale, without assuming they perform the same function.[1]
