Jamie Miller takes Babydoll to number one in Britain

Jamie Miller’s Babydoll has reached number one on the UK singles chart, narrowly beating Tate McRae’s Housewife. The result makes the Cardiff-born singer the first Welsh artist to top the chart since 2011. Released in August, the song spread through social-media videos and a dance trend before Miller recorded another version with actor Antonio Cipriano.

Babydoll takes the UK singles lead

Welsh singer Jamie Miller reached number one on the UK singles chart with Babydoll on 23 October. He is the first Welsh artist to top the chart since 2011.[1], [2]

The Official Charts Company’s result put the song narrowly ahead of Tate McRae’s Housewife. Miller, 29, comes from Pontprennau in Cardiff. The previous Welsh chart-topper was Sian Evans, featured on DJ Fresh’s Louder. Among Welsh male solo artists, Shakin’ Stevens last reached the summit with Merry Christmas Everyone in 1985.[1]

Videos and a dance trend carried the song online

Babydoll was released on 7 August. Actress Jennifer Love Hewitt posted videos featuring it, followed by a TikTok dance trend. The song reached the top of the US iTunes pop chart and brought Miller his first Billboard Hot 100 appearance. In Britain, it narrowly missed number one the previous week.[1]

Miller records another version with Antonio Cipriano

Miller made another version with Off Campus actor Antonio Cipriano after a social-media joke prompted the collaboration. He finished third in the sixth season of The Voice UK at 19. After the chart result, he thanked listeners and called the achievement the biggest event in his life.[1]
