Detroit names its Thanksgiving headliner
American hip-hop collective Wu-Tang Clan will headline the Detroit Lions’ Thanksgiving halftime performance at Ford Field in Detroit, United States, on November 26. The American football team will host the Chicago Bears in its 87th annual Thanksgiving game. The Lions announced the selection on November 1.[1], [2]
Eminem and Rosenberg return as producers
Eminem and his longtime manager Paul Rosenberg, president of music company Shady Records, serve as executive producers and choose the performers. This is the second year of their multi-year partnership with the Lions. In the announcement, Rosenberg says he and Eminem have been Wu-Tang fans since the early 1990s and wanted to bring the group to this stage. The team also named Michigan-born actor and recording artist Antonio Cipriano to sing the national anthem.[1]
The appearance follows the farewell tour
The halftime appearance is being announced as the group concludes Wu-Tang Forever: The Final Chamber, its global farewell tour. Founded in Staten Island, New York, in the early 1990s, Wu-Tang Clan has toured together since its 1993 debut. The Lions’ announcement places the performance after the group’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the institution honouring influential recording artists. The club describes a catalogue of eight group albums and more than 85 full-length releases when members’ solo projects are included.[1]
